On his way to Montreal where a sizable Kabylian community has managed to easily integrate the French Speaking Canadian province,
the President of the Movement For Autonomy of Kabylia , Mr. Ferhat Mehenni, has taken the opportunity to visit Those Kabylians who
opted for the United States. The visit is seen as recognition and regard to Kabylian-Americans by Mr. Mehenni. And In in a way, it is an expression of his desire to establish presence in the United States, and perhaps seek assistance in the struggle opposing Kabylia and the Algerian regime, since the independence from France in 1962. While in the United States, Mr. Mehenni could at once meet all Kabylians, for the simple reason reason of their dispersion throughout the continent size country, on the one hand, as well, what appear to be the option to integrate America as individuals rather than a community, despite the existence of several
associations in which number of Kabylians are leaders. While in the US, Mr. Mehenni has met with what he considers Kabylian Constituents, despite their absence from the homeland, and expressed the friendly attitude of Kabylians in Kabylian to America, as well as support to the US which Kabylians at large
have openly expressed during the events of 911, as well as vis-a-vis the War against Islamic Terrorism everywhere, which they continue themselves to endure. This message seem to have been well received by those of the Diaspora for whom America is nothing but Home. While not, asking them to form a branch of MAK, he expressed his hope for their help in informing the American public at large, including Governmental Institutions of his desire to acquire their support in the resolution of the conflict opposing the Algerian government and the region. In return to his visible enthusiasm to be once again on American soil, Mr. Mehenni received a booklet containing the texts of The US Declaration Of independence, and The US Constitution, which he pleadged to carry with him everywhere he goes, and which he intends to present to the various committees as a model. “His instantaneous and emotionally charged remark was “Americans are light years ahead of the rest of Humanity” - His discussions with a Kabylian from Washington are reported to express his desire for an opportunity to present the cause and the situation of Kabylia, to America People, Media, and Institutions. Overall, in a Kabylian Cafe’ in the heart of Philadelphia, he presented the situation and its evolution in Kabylia, and answered questions from those present, on the advancement of the efforts of his movement to bring the case onto the International Arena. In a brief explanation, The president of the Movement expressed satisfaction with the adhesion of the Kabylian Diaspora in Europe, and the positive attitude the movement has received from Europeans in general. The movement has organized almost in every European Country, but lesser in the English Speaking world. The difference in mobilization between Kabylians in Canada and those in the US is striking, and the reason can only be speculated on. Except for the few Kabylian-Americans who have lived long enough in the US, and express their political views without apology, the majority of the Kabylian Diaspora in the US, which arrived following the 1990 civil war in Algeria, seem to be fearful of consequences – A reflex acquired back at home. Mr. Mehenni who had visited the US last year at the UN, with the commission on the rights of indigenous / 1st Peoples, seem to have made friends., and the cause of his movement began to emerge in the English speaking world.
